Americare OT Amy Mak Raising Funds To Support Growth of Occupational Therapy in Madagascar
One of our dedicated occupational therapists Amy Mak is doing a fundraiser to send 3 OT delegates from Madagascar to the upcoming World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) Congress in Cape Town, South Africa. Help us reach her goal of $6,000 by April 15th so that we can have more occupational therapists making a difference in the world!
Occupational therapy emerged as a well-respected profession in the U.S. over a decade ago, but had been non-existent in many third-world countries until recently. Last summer, Amy spent a month in Madagascar leading workshops for OT students while providing therapy in the community.
During her time, she experienced first-hand the lack of and need for therapy in the country. She started a fundraiser to support the growth of this profession by sending recent OT grads (and their professor) to an important event that will help them gain a better understanding of the profession and provide them an opportunity to network with other OTs from all over the world.
