What is CDPAP?

The Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP) gives you the freedom to select a loved one or friend as your caregiver. They get paid for their work and you get care from familiar, comforting hands.

Here to answer your questions

Is there any cost to benefit from CDPAP?

No. CDPAP is completely funded by Medicaid and there is no cost to enroll.

Who can I choose to be my caregiver?

You can choose nearly any adult over the age of 18. That being said, there are a few exceptions. The following people cannot be your CDPAP caregiver:

  • Your spouse
  • Your child under the age of 21
Does my caregiver need any sort of certificate or training?

While formal certification isn’t required for CDPAP caregivers, they do receive remote training to ensure they can competently perform necessary care tasks. The training takes place on their schedule, at their convenience.

How many hours of care do I get with CDPAP?

You can receive up to 60 hours of care per week under CDPAP, with overtime pay available. A nurse will assess your care needs and work with you to determine your caregiver’s schedule.

What kinds of tasks can my CDPAP caregiver perform?

Your CDPAP caregiver can assist with a wide range of tasks, including personal care, medication management, meal preparation, and other activities of daily living, depending on your specific needs.

Can I change my caregiver if I'm not satisfied with their service?

Yes, you have the flexibility to change your caregiver under CDPAP. It’s important that you’re comfortable with the care you receive, and you can choose someone else at any time.
